Iwo Jima

the reasons behind the attack on iwo jima.
Pearl harbor is the intitial engagement that caused the usa to get involved in the pacific theatre of world war 2 which eventually lead into the battle of iwo jima. THE REASON THE JAPANESE BOMBED Pearl Habor ISN'T COMPLETELY KNOWN BUT MANY PEOPLE THINK IT WAS SO THEY COULD ATTACK THE REST OF THE PACIFIC THEATRE WITHOUT THE USA HAVING BATTLESHIPS TO DEFEND THE COUNTRIES THE JAPENESE WERE ATTACKING. ANOTHER REASON IWO JIMA HAPPENED WAS BECAUSE THE US NEEDED AIRFEILDS TO DEFEAT THE JAPANESE AND HELP ALLIES AND IWO JIMA HAD THE AIRFEILDS THAT THE US WANTED. AS MILITARY.COM STATES "TAKING THE ISLAND MEANT MORE THAN A SYMBOLIC CAPTURE OF THE JAPANESE HOMELAND. IT MEANT THE U.S. COULD LAUNCH BOMBING RUNS FROM IWO JIMA'S STRATEGIC AIRFIELDS, AS THE TINY ISLAND WAS DIRECTLY UNDER THE FLIGHT PATH OF B-29 SUPERFORTRESSES FROM GUAM, SAIPAN AND THE MARIANA ISLANDS." this is showing that the us wanted the island for launching bombing runs. in the era the us citizens were mad at the japenese for pearl harbor and wanted justice which was the battle of iwo jima. The battle ended up taking place on Iwo jima during febuary 19, 1945 through march 26, 1945 so the battle took a little over a month.
